Synopsis:
On Christmas 2015 two friends drove around Los Angeles feeding the homeless while trying to understand why they felt compelled to do it. One year later Caleb Mann and Manav Wadhwa ventured out again, this time, with 50 donated meals and a camera, learning that more important than their intentions, were the people on the streets who had a message.

A Message Without A Home
Project background:
On Xmas in 2015, Caleb and I drove around LA feeding the homeless. We both wondered why we felt so compelled to do it, deeply questioning our intentions. In 2016 we did it again but thought we’d share a slice of the experience. We interacted with a kaleidoscope of personalities from ex-attorneys to poets to drug dealers. Many refused to be on camera but through all the interactions we realized amongst many things, that pain, although characterized differently, is at its core identical for everyone who experiences it. And although it may seem like we were doing something for them the reality was they were the ones giving us a gift, a message, something far grander than the temporary satisfaction of a hot meal. The most unsettling realization was that we saw parts of ourselves in them and understood their situation can happen to anyone. 2016 has been a strange and jagged year for a lot of people, myself included. Glad to let it go and look forward. Happy New Year! A special thanks to Flavor of India for opening the restaurant on Xmas morning to prepare the food so it would be the freshest possible.
Special thanks: Flavor of India in Burbank for donating 50 meals.
